MAINE FAMILY POLICY COUNCIL CITIZEN ACTION CENTER

ACTION ALERT: Our Chance to Defend the Unborn- LD's 116, 924, and 1457
ACTION ALERT COMMENTARY: Let the members of the Judiciary Committee know you support all three of these pieces of legislation with the following talking points:

1.These proposed bills address legitimate women's health issues. We agree
with abortion advocates that this procedure needs to be rare and safe;
all three of these bills will do that.
2.Many other states have similar legislation and these bills are
based on those models.
3.LD 924 and 1457 bring the abortion procedure in line with all other
medical procedures with regard to the right to know about the risks
involved, other viable options, and the involvement of parents.
4.These bills provide for the appropriate judicial over rides to protect
women and minors who require immediate and confidential medical care.
5.The present laws concerning informed consent and parental consent
are weak and at the discretion of the medical provider. By strengthening
these laws we are protecting women’s health and parental rights.
