Maine Republicans Agree with League
March 12th, 2007The Maine GOP issued a press release yesterday agreeing with the League's position on LD 779. The League was one of the first group's in Maine to report on the bill. The Portland Press Herald has editorialized against it. The Maine GOP and the Portland Press Herald have strongly objected to the bill.
I spoke personally with the sponsor last week on the telephone and urged him to pull the bill. It is a waste of legislative time.
LD 779 probably never had a chance of going anywhere, yet many Christians are taking time to attend the public hearing this afternoon. In the meantime, LD 375, will definitely pass, unless there is an outcry from the public. LD 375 is much more dangerous than LD 779.
LD 375 is the highest priority of the radical pro homosexual lobby. According to press reports the leader of that lobby is planning to testify today in agreement with the League's position on the clergy marriage bill, LD 779.
Homosexual activists want LD 375 because it further solidifies their legal position. It will become the the basis of their lawsuit to force either civil unions or same sex marriage. Make no mistake, that lobby is NOT going to quit until Maine children have no protection from adults who wish to deny them a mother or a father.
Every legislator who supports LD 375 is voting to harm the innocent children of Maine. They are giving into the incremental strategy of the "gay" lobby.
The Maine GOP is silent on LD 375. The Christian Civic League of Maine is the only organization in the state with the courage to tell the truth about this bill.
If you are a Republican contact the Maine GOP and urge them to issue a press release strongly opposing LD 375, the homosexual partners bill. If you are Roman Catholic contact your Chancery. Unbelievably, they are PUBLICALLY SUPPORTING LD 375.
A group of Catholics are asking the Chancery to support an amendment to the bill. The amendment would make it clear that Maine doesn't recognize same sex couples.

Family, Faith, and Values
Senator Brownback strongly believes that America is great because America is good. Like Ronald Reagan, Senator Sam Brownback believes that America must be that "Shining City on a Hill" where faith, moral values, respect for life, and the sanctity of marriage are celebrated. For these reasons, Senator Brownback has championed policies which protect all human life, defend the institution of marriage as the union a man and a woman, and allow faith to play its necessary role in our society and culture.
Upholding the Sanctity of Marriage as One Man and One Woman:
Senator Brownback was a chief sponsor of the Marriage Protection Amendment, which would stop activist judges from imposing same-sex marriage on the people of all 50 states and redefining marriage for all of us. This Amendment would preempt such arbitrary judicial rulings by defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the U.S. Constitution. Marriage is the foundational institution of our society, and the Senator believes we must do everything we can to protect it.
Protecting Human Life:
Senator Brownback is a vigorous and principled leader in the United States Senate who has worked to protect human dignity and the right to life. He believes that the true measure of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable members. As a father of five, two adopted, Senator Brownback believes that life is the most precious gift that we must defend as a nation. For this reason, he has been a champion in sponsoring the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban, Laci and Connor's Law, and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. In addition, Senator Brownback has worked hard to end taxpayer funding of abortion, ban human cloning, and he has opposed federal funding of questionable scientific research that destroys human life. Brownback is firmly committed to overturning the tragic 1973 Roe v. Wade decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, which legalized abortion by judicial mandate throughout nine months of pregnancy. As well, he is the primary sponsor of the Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act.
Celebrating Faith in the Public Square:
Senator Brownback agrees with our nation's Founders that faith should play a central role in American life and that our Constitution protects the free exercise of religion. Voluntary expressions of faith should be encouraged, not banned, from our nation's public square. In this regard, Senator Brownback supports voluntary prayer in public school, freedom to post the Ten Commandments in public areas, educational vouchers for parents with children in religious schools, and keeping "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.
In addition, in order to remove the financial incentive of the ACLU and other left-wing groups from suing various governmental entities related to First Amendment and religious expression issues, Brownback has authored legislation which would end reimbursement of legal fees for the ACLU from taxpayer's funds.
I've Voted, and You Should, Too.
November 4th, 2006By Mike Hein
I've voted.
Actually, it was a couple of weeks ago now, by absentee ballot. My wife and I filled out the Maine State absentee ballot request forms, and I picked them up at the Augusta City Hall. I will be at the League office on Election Day, most likely answering calls from League supporters who seek last minute voting advice from a trusted Christian source. My wife voted by absentee ballot because she values my opinion and knowledge regarding the local candidates and referendum questions.
As you can see by the picture of my ballot, the first race listed is not for Governor, but for United States Senate. I did not vote for Senator Olympia Snowe for re-election, due to her long record of pro-abortion votes in the Senate. Instead, I voted my conscience and voted for the Christian alternative, write-in candididate for U.S. Senate, Michael A. Beardsley of Ellsworth. He registered with the State of Maine as an official write-in candidate months ago, and his candidacy announcement was covered here in the Record. In order to make it a valid write-in vote, I had to write his name as "Beardsley, Michael A., Ellsworth" and fill in the arrow by the write-in space. Most likely he will not win, but I am committed to voting my Christian values.
The next race on the ballot is for Governor of Maine. I voted for State Senator Chandler Woodcock. This should come as a surprise to nobody, since I signed his candidate's petition this spring to get him on the Republican primary ballot, and contributed $5 at the same time for his campaign to qualify for Maine's Clean-Elections public funding. I voted for him in the Republican primary this past June, and was excited when he won the GOP nomination for Governor. Senator Woodcock has a strong pro-life and pro-traditional marriage voting record from his years in the State Senate, and is a lay Baptist minister. He is a Christian man of faith and he deserves our vote.
Next on the Maine State ballot is the race for U.S. Congress. Augusta, where I live, is in the 1st Congressional District. My choices were Democrat Tom Allen, Republican Darlene Curley, and a Green Party candidate. All three are stridently pro-abortion and pro-homosexual marriage. None of them got my vote. I wrote-in the name of George W. Rodrigues of Westbrook. Dr. Rodrigues is a Christian family man and League supporter. I admire him and his family tremendously, they are great Christian witnesses.
I wish I lived in the 2nd Congressional District (points north of Augusta) where L. Scott D'Amboise is running for the U.S. Congress. I would vote for him. He is the only Maine candidate for public office that I heard confess the name of Jesus Christ as his own personal Lord and Saviour. He is a moral, ethical Christian family man. I've prayed for him and made a financial donation to his campaign. Regardless of how things go for him Tuesday, his campaign alone has caused me as a Christian not to lose hope.
For State Senate in Kennebec County, I voted for His voting record as State Representative has been pro-traditional marriage, but also mixed on abortion. He is far better than his opponent though. I pray that he changes his views on abortion, and sees that the lives of unborn children are sacred. I cast my vote for him with reservations. It was my most difficult vote to cast this year.
For State Representative in House District 57, I wrote-in my neighbor, James P. Melcher of Augusta. Dr. Melcher is a Political Science professor at the University of Maine at Farmington and an Elder at his local Episcopal Church here in Augusta. The Democrat candidate in the open House seat is endorsed by the pro-homosexual marriage organization Equality Maine, and her Republican opponent is on record in a local newspaper interview earlier this year as supporting homosexual civil unions, and open to the idea of supporting homosexual marriage. As a Christian, I could not vote for either Patsy Crockett or Rachel Ellis. I understand that one of them will win, and pray that the Holy Spirit changes their hearts with regard to God's Word in the Bible about the abomination of homosexual sin.
As for the Taxpayer Bill of Rights citizen's initiative (Question 1), I voted for it.
As for the Constitutional Amendment (Question 2), I voted against it.
Locally, I voted for Roger Katz for Mayor of Augusta, for David Rollins for Augusta City Council, and for Darek Grant for the Augusta Board of Education.
Heath calls Whitman Appearance "Odd"
October 20th, 2006League Director Michael Heath is quoted in the national pro family press describing Senator Chandler Woodcock's appearance last weekend with liberal Governor Christie Todd Whitman as "odd" and "perhaps inappropriate." Heath was called for the interview with AgapePress, an affiliate of the American Family Association, after this publication posted a news article about the appearance.
Heath told the national publication that the League would have preferred that the Senator not attend the GOP Rally with Whitman. The 45 year old pro family leader preferred that Senator Woodcock do things differently. "If he wanted to make a statement about civility and citizenship," Said Heath. "He should hold his own press conference."
Whitman was in Maine to promote her group that is called "It's My Party Too." The group is a reaction to socially conservative citizens who are working within the Republican Party to end legal abortion and push homosexuality back into the closet where it belongs.
A diversity of opinions are featured on the League's forum thread regarding the article. Some Republicans suggest that the Rally was Whitman's effort to get liberal Republicans to support the conservative Woodcock. Whitman endorsed Woodcock for Governor at the Rally.
Senator Chandler Woodcock is trying to unseat incumbent socially-liberal Democrat John Baldacci.
An email is circulating featuring Woodcock's stand on evolution and abortion in a televised debate this week. The email is called "A Vote for Values" It includes the following information:
WGME 13 hosted a Gubernatorial Forum for the candidates last night. There was discussion about the usual topics, such as healthcare, taxes, education, etc. Then most interesting & enlightening part was the "Lightning Round." That was where the most important issues came out. I say, most important because if you get these wrong, everything crumbles eventually.
1. Do you support "Civil Unions"? (same sex marriage with a new name)
Baldacci - Yes
Merrill - Yes
LaMarche - Yes
Woodcock - NO
2. Do you believe mankind originated by Creation or Evolution?
Baldacci - Evolution
Merrill - Evolution
LaMarche - Evolution
Only Woodcock said Man was created by God.
3. Should we allow teaching Intelligent Design alongside Evolution?
Only Woodcock said we should allow teaching Intelligent Design.

October 16th, 2006

Christopher Rector of Thomaston. Republican Legislative candidates in attendance were Rachel Ellis of Augusta, Abigail Holman of Fayette, Jeffrey Gifford of Lincoln, and John Babine of Lewiston.
Strategic Partners the Republican pro-abortion, pro-homosexual It's My Party, Too include the Log Cabin Republicans homosexual organization, Planned Parenthood Republicans for Choice , the similarly named Republicans for Choice political action committee, the Republican Majority for Choice , and the pro-abortion Women in the Senate and House (WISH) List fundraising network.
